On July 18th 2015 I was in the shower doing a self-breast examination when I felt a lump. When I returned home from traveling the following Monday, I called and made an appointment with my OBGYN. Back in 2004 I had a benign cyst which was removed. My first thought was I better go get this checked out.

At my appointment, my OBGYN wanted me to have an MRI and Ultrasound. While I was at the Breast Center they thought they better do a biopsy as well. They told me that they didn't know if they would have results by Friday or Monday. My husband was home at the time due to shoulder surgery. I received a call from Fairview’s Breast Center around 11am Friday morning. I was told I had breast cancer. Immediately, I burst out crying as she told me she would call me back with an oncologist and surgeon. When I got off the phone I told my husband, as he tried comforting me. The nurse called me back with a list of doctors. I felt lucky I could be treated by Dr. Barbara Bowers (I knew her well). I started to call my family to give them the news but one of the people I contacted as well was Barbara Hensley, Hope Chest for Breast Cancer’s founder, because I have worked with the Hope Chest for Mother's Day Brunch events.

I have been working with the Hope Chest Mother's Day Brunch for over 10 years. I was first a volunteer and helped with the models and then Barbara said to me "why aren't you a model?". So for the past 5 years I have been modeling, along with Dr. Barbara Bowers.

I had my surgery on August 18th and I could wait until after my son's wedding on the 19th of September to start my radiation. It was a very long 7 weeks.
